Dead Laptop Update

So I decided to order a new hard drive for the laptop, thinking that might be the problem.  I got the hard drive the other day and installed it.  Laptop does the same thing.  The lights light up for a second, then turn off.  Now I’m thinking the motherboard is probably dead.  Oh well.  It’s time for me to save up for a MacBook Pro 17″.
